The Biggest Loser – SJdS

San Juan del Sur is getting it’s very own BIGGEST LOSER competition!
The competition is sponsored by the Buena Vida Fitness Centre and as of today there are already 12 contestants signed up. First weigh-in will be held on Monday Feb 1. The contest will end on Friday March 26 and prizes will be awarded for those with the largest weight loss. Each contestant will receive fitness and nutritional guidance; and is encouraged to take advantage of daily training sessions at the Buena Vida Fitness Centre included in the competition fees.
Contestants will weigh-in weekly and progress (expressed in percentage of weight lost) will be posted at the Fitness Centre and submitted for publication in the del Sur weekly newsletter.

Earthship Pitaya Festival

The second annual Earthship Pitaya Festival is happening this Saturday, January 30 in the community of El Carizal. This event was a lot of fun last year and promises to be equally wonderful again this year. With a great lineup of music, food, yoga and cock-fighting, this is a unique festival that pulls together ex-pats and locals in a fun-filled day.- The festival’s mission is to bring a community of like minded individuals together to celebrate diversity, sustainability, music, local food, yoga and Nicaraguan culture in the best form possible; A music festival in the heart of the community of El Carizal, Nicaragua.
- There will be shuttle transportation from town (location to be announced) to the event site. Entrance fee is on a “pay what you can” basis. (at least it was last year). This is a full day event and all proceeds (should there be any) will go to community development projects in El Carizal…. so this isn’t the time to be tight with your money. Think what something like this would cost at home and then be generous and enjoy a great day!

Not being a football fan, I can’t wait for this month to be over… Football is EVERYWHERE in this town these days. I know I’m in the minority… so if you are looking for a great place to watch the games this weekend, you might want to try Piedras Y Olas, Las Cascadas Bar. Crazy Communidad Party Friday Jan 22

The Crazy Crab Disco is hosting a benefit party this coming Friday night. This will be an affordable and fun night with all proceeds going to support the great local projects of Communidad Connect. Music will be provided by Don Bigote y los pobrecitos and others. Beer & Rum drinks are being offered at 18 Cords every half an hour (whatever that means). Other than my friend Danny’s birthday on Wednesday, this is looking like the highlight of the week. So far!
