This Weeks Events: June 22-29

This week is ‘San Juan days’ or “Fiestas Patronales” as San Juan Bautista (St. John the Baptist) day is celebrated on June 24.  The festivities got started on the weekend, but culminate with a big celebration on Tuesday night and Wednesday.  There are daily religious processions with a statue of the saint, usually in the morning and in a different neighborhood each day.

Cultural program to celebrate San Juan day.  7 pm at the Central Park.  Speeches and performances.

Wed June 24

San Juan Day.  Festivities are held in the Central Park, starting (theoretically) at 10am.  Various entertaining games are traditional, including (I have heard) greased pig catching; greased pole climbing, sack races, etc.

Culture Night @ Restaurante El Timon. 7:30pm. Nicaraguan dance, music and food. Beer & Rum drinks for $1.00
