Volleyball

Two more girls’ team will be visiting SJdS from the USA.

Berry University will be here from March 14th to the 18th and will play the Nicaraguan National Team at the Sports Park on March 17th

Club Fusion a Juniors Club Team from the Chicago Area will be here from March 22nd to 26th. They will play the Nicaraguan Junior National Team at the Sports Park on
March 24

Brooke Rundle is running both tours, and both groups will be participating in community activities on the days prior to their matches. If anyone has any projects that could use some help or attention, please contact one of us via email.

International Volleyball in San Juan

San Juan hosted another fantastic volleyball exhibition game last Friday, May 8th.  This time the Nicaraguan National Women’s team was victorious against the University of West Florida Women’s team.  The game was held at the Sports Park and was great Friday night entertainment to a good crowd of sports fans.

This Week’s Events – April 6-13 2009

This week is the height of Semana Santa and the town will be full of revelers from all over Nicaragua. Many parties on the beach! Have fun, but beware… with crowds come pickpockets and other undesirables. Note that many establishments may close for at least part of the week – so no Open Mic night at Coquitos this week.

    Upcoming Sporting Events

    This coming weekend is shaping up to be sports lovers dream. On Friday night (March 27) the final match of the futbol sala league will take place at the Sports Park. This is guaranteed to be a packed house, so get there early to ensure good seating.

    Saturday (March 28) the Beach Soccer Tournament is set to get underway at about noon in front of Smokey’s Bar and there is a hot rumour going around that another game in the hugely popular NHL (Nicaragua roadHockey League) will be taking place Saturday afternoon at the Sports Park.

    Sunday (March 29) is the annual “Swim the Bay”. Nicaragua Swimming Federation hosts the “Crossing of the Bay of San Juan” swim for it’s members. Swimmers set out at 9:30 am from in front of Restaurant El Globo.

    And if that isn’t enough for you sports fans… on April 7 the San Juan Sports Park will host the National volleyball team in an exhibition game against a team from the US. This popular event is loads of fun and gets started at 7pm.
